ASUCLA Student Relief Fund established to aid student recovery, wellness after recent wildfires
The ASUCLA Student Relief Fund will provide basic needs to students impacted by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles. Donations are now being accepted on an ongoing basis.
Los Angeles, Calif., March 10, 2025 – To support UCLA students affected by the recent, devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) is establishing the ASUCLA Student Relief Fund, intended to give back to those in need.
Although the Los Angeles fires that destroyed more than 12,000 structures and displaced tens of thousands residents are now out, the impacts will long remain. Looking to assist its recovering Bruin community, ASUCLA intends to raise donations for UCLA students in need through the ASUCLA Student Disaster Relief Fund.
“Emergencies are unpredictable and we want to be responsive to the needs of our students,” said Pamela Lewis, ASUCLA Student Union services director. “Establishing a relief fund reflects ASUCLA’s commitment to support and community. Providing assistance when it matters most, we uphold out mission and create a stronger UCLA.”
Donations will be used to provide basic needs to students — such as housing, financial assistance, meals — who experienced academic disruption, financial strain, health risks, mental health needs, food insecurity, or displacement and housing instability as a result of the wildfires. UCLA students will be able to apply for financial assistance as donations are made; the relief funding application will be made available soon after through the ASUCLA website.
Recipients of the ASUCLA Student Relief Fund will be in collaboration with the Student Relief Committee, comprised of three students from ASUCLA’s Board of Directors.
