Fashion week

At UCLA, where students express their style both on campus and through clubs such as Fashion and Student Trends (FAST), the excitement for fashion week is undeniable. FAST was UCLA’s first fashion club, founded in 2001. Since then, they have been a fashion force on campus, cultivating talent and creativity.

Twice a year, New York, London, Paris and Milan host fashion weeks to showcase designers' spring/summer collections in February and fall/winter collections in September. New York kicks off the fall/winter season on Sept. 6, followed by London (Sept. 13-17), Milan (Sept. 17-23) and Paris (Sept. 23-Oct. 1).

Fashion week is when designers debut their latest collections to media, buyers and industry influencers. Fashion journalists analyze these collections to predict the trends that shape the upcoming season, while buyers select pieces for their stores. For designers, it’s a crucial deadline to finalize their creative vision. For stylists and celebrities, it’s a chance to scout the next big red carpet look.

New York Fashion Week (NYFW), the first in the lineup, will be an intense five days, featuring over 70 shows. Designers like Bugatchi, Coach, Tory Burch, JUZUI and Sandy Liang are among the highlights there. The diversity of designers reflects NYFW's commitment to both honoring tradition and embracing innovation, making it a must-watch event for anyone interested in the future of fashion.

To celebrate such an exciting time in the fashion world, get involved with Fashion and Student Trends (FAST) at UCLA. According to the FAST website, the club provides students “first-hand experience in design, modeling, finance, marketing, editorial, creative directing, production and more.” FAST hosts one show at the end of the school year in Pauley Pavilion to showcase their work.

“I had a great time modeling for FAST,” said Hope Phahla, a returning model for FAST at UCLA. “It was so fun getting to make friends with the other models and designers and gain more modeling experience while doing it!”
