DeShaun Foster was named the UCLA head coach football on Feb. 12, 2024. As an alumnus of UCLA and accomplished running back, Foster’s history with the university continued throughout both his college and professional career. According to his biography, Foster has been a coach at the collegiate level for the past 11 seasons — 10 years at UCLA and one year at Texas Tech.
According to the UCLA Athletics webpage announcing the new UCLA Football Head Coach, Foster’s involvement with the team began as a student assistant while at UCLA during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, and later as a graduate assistant at UCLA in 2014. The article continues that in 2015, Foster became the director of Player Development and High School Relations at UCLA.
After a year of coaching Texas Tech Football, Foster was the running backs coach for the UCLA Football team between 2017 and 2023. In addition to being the running backs coach during the 2023 football season, he was also the associate head coach.
However, the UCLA head coach football experience goes back further to his own years on the field. Foster spent seven years in the National Football League (NFL) between the Carolina Panthers and the San Francisco 49ers, even attending the Super Bowl XXXVIII with the Panthers.
