UCLA takes on March Madness

Buzzer beaters, Cinderella teams and major upsets: March Madness is officially here. Every year, the college basketball tournament captivates fans with competitive bracket predictions and the hope that their team will make it to the Final Four. This March Madness, both the UCLA Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams have qualified for the tournament!

UCLA Women’s Basketball

The UCLA Women’s Basketball team completed their regular season with a 20-2 record, both losses unfortunately to USC. A few weeks ago, the Bruins kicked off their postseason in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament with a matchup against Nebraska. After securing a win, they swiftly advanced to the final round, where they faced off against USC for a third time; and as the saying goes, “third time’s the charm!” UCLA defeated USC 72-67, officially becoming the champions of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball tournament.

After a standout season, the Bruins are heading into March Madness as the No. 1 seed in the Spokane region — the first time in program history that UCLA Women's Basketball has earned an overall No. 1 seed!

More exciting news: UCLA is set to host the First Four games and the First and Second rounds of March Madness at Pauley Pavilion! On March 19, Southern University will face UC San Diego at 6 p.m. The First Four continues on March 21, with Richmond taking on Georgia Tech at 4:30 p.m., followed by the First Round where UCLA Women’s Basketball will play the winner of the March 19 matchup at 7 p.m. The second round will take place on March 23, where the winners of both first-round games will go head-to-head. UCLA Men’s Basketball

The UCLA Men’s Basketball team completed their regular season with a 22-9 record, including key wins against Gonzaga, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Oregon. Last week, the Bruins competed in the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament, facing Wisconsin in the quarterfinals. Despite a tough 86-70 loss, their strong regular and postseason performance earned UCLA a No. 7 seed in the Midwest region for March Madness! The Bruins will play Utah State in the first round of the tournament on March 20 at 6:25 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.
